4 Weeks

I can't believe your baby sister is 4 weeks old!
Here are some things about her...
She loves loud music. Very loud. Like can't hear the person next to you loud. Dad and i went to a wedding and at the reception a band was playing. She slept the whole 2 hours and didn't make a peep. She hates when the car stops moving. As long as it's above 30 miles per hour and music is on loud she will be pretty content. No music, low music, bad song choice or below 30 miles an hour you can forget about it. She is not a fan. She loves the baby wrap and sleeps well in it. She really can't make up her mind about sleeping at night. Most of the time she is pretty insistent that she sleep with me but once in a while she will sleep in the swing or car seat or rock n play. But not on her back and not in the crib. She is less than a fan. She hates her diaper changed. She loved her first bottle. She gets the hiccups more than any of my babies. She started acid reflux meds like you and Julia were on and hopefully they will help. She likes the binkie so far and loves her wunbanub like you did. She loves to be swaddled but has to have her hands by her face. She has a darling smile and I can't wait to have her smile back at us voluntarily. She is kissed and loved all day and brings lots of joy. We are so blessed to have her in our family.

Love you mister mister!

Cheer Tryouts

Your sister has been working very hard to get ready for cheer tryouts. She was very nervous and anxious. We kidnapped her after tryouts were over and before the results were posted and took her for ice cream.

We put hearts all over her door with notes from everyone in the family including you and Lexie. Yours said, "always remember I'm watching over you." Lexie's said, "I love you," with her foot print. We wanted Claire to feel loved regardless of the results.

She worked so hard practicing each day with Kailee.

Once 4:30 rolled around results were supposed to be posted. We must have clicked refreshmabout a hundred times. Finally we saw the numbers of the girls who made it and sissies number was there! So was her friends! She is so excited and we are excited for her.

This is a picture of her with her "big sister." An eighth grade cheerleader that took her under her wing. She adores her.

We went to the school to celebrate a bit. Lexie did great and slept the whole time. Thank goodness! I love this picture with your sisters watching and supporting!

Way to go sissy!

Goodnight sweet boy!
Sure do love you.

Bath Time

Here are pictures of the first time we gave Lexie a bath. If she could talk I think these pictures would be narrated like this...
Hmmm I think I could get used to this treatment.

It's really not bad...

Wow there are a lot of people around me.

I'm not sure I'm a fan after all. I'm rethinking my initial comment.

On second thought I'm hungry. Oh there's someone's hand, I'll try that.

Well that's a bummer not really what I wanted. Not fun.

Now I'm ticked. I don't think I like the bath at all and now I'm hungry.

Feed me now! But I need to keep my death grip on your finger, Audrey, don't move it.

Okay I'm clean and still ready to eat. Let's do this.

Your sisters love to help with Lexie. They are great helpers and come running even when it's time to change her diaper.
Hence the picture below.

Today was the first time I looked at Alexis and completely saw you. I burst into tears. Having her is one of the most beautiful yet difficult things I think a mother can go through. It's hard to put into words what your emotions range from on an hour by hour or even minute by minute basis. Especially with the hormonal changes your body goes through from pregnancy and birth.

My love for Alexis is immense, beautiful and immeasurable and will never be questioned. Ever. But with my love for her comes an intense sadness and longing for you that is almost as difficult, if not equally as difficult, as the day we closed your casket and I said goodbye to your beautiful face the last time. It's so incredibly hard. Hard doesn't scratch the surface.

I know I'll get through this. I'm so grateful for my savior. Goodness he strengthens me. He brings me comfort when my feelings and sadness are so intense. He calms my breaking heart and gives me the strength to wipe my tears and keep going. I don't know what I would do without my savior. Maybe you can thank him for me, sweet boy. Would you mind? Give him a big hug too, while you're at it. :)
I love you, son.

Holding Lexie

Your sissies LOVE to hold and kiss, and hug and kiss and look at and kiss, your baby sister. They are constantly doing so and rush to her when she makes a peep. They were the same way with you only they didn't get to do that with you nearly as often as they would have liked. But some is better than none. These girls are definitely obsessed with babies and love having one at home.

There is a lot of love for this newest little bundle. Isn't she just the cutest, sweetest, most perfect little beauty? I still can't believe we have another baby. She is precious and I'll make sure to tell her all about you. I wish she could remember you. I wish you were running around the house right now getting into things. I wish we were all together. So grateful to know that one day we will be. Families are eternal and I am so grateful you're part of ours. So grateful your baby sister is too. Can't imagine our lives without you in them.

Love you to heaven and back.

Lexie's Nursery

Your sister's nursery is finally done. I am so excited with the way it turned out. It is the first time I have ever decorated a room in the house from beginning to end. I usually buy a comforter here, picture there. Paint this room, buy decor for that one. When I was pregnant with your other 4 sisters we were either in undergrad, law school or just graduated so I have never done a nursery before. I was waiting to do your vintage superhero nursery until we had a date when you'd be coming home from the NICU.

When Dad asked me what I wanted for our Anniversary and Christmas I immediately said, "A nursery!" So I shopped for the last 4 months and had such a great time! The girls loved helping too. I knew I wanted shabby chic and here's how it turned out.

I found the sign, "All of God's Grace in One Tiny Face," at Hobby Lobby and that's where the planning started. I love the saying not only because of your sister's middle name being Grace but also because I feel as though I am reminded of God's grace when I look at each of my beautiful children.

We had newborn pictures of Alexis this week and I canNOT wait to get them back and put them in these picture frames. I found the various colors of frames at Burke's Outlet and painted the black cursive "A" from hobby lobby mustard.

Gram and Angie wanted to make Lexie's quilt so I knew I needed to get creative with making the crib look girly without having coordinating bumper pads and sheets. I found a pin on pinterest where they tied bows to the crib and fell in love. It really dressed up the soft white bumper pad (white minky dot from amazon) and made the crib look so dainty and girly. I love the way it turned out and I even sewed the bows myself. I'm quite excited about that. :) (For anyone wondering It takes half a yard per bow.)

I found this Monarch Antique White rocking chair on amazon and fell in love. Too bad it took 3 tries to get one that wasn't defective. The first 2 times it came with cracks but luckily the third time really was the charm. I love the look of the wooden rocking chair. I found the cream/off white throw and pillow at Home Goods. LOVE that store.

Here is the amazing quilt!!!! I love it for a bazillion reasons but one of the top 2 reasons is because 3 of the fabrics were in the quilt that Auntie Angie made for you. We keep your quilt in our room with us every night. I love that you and your sister's quilts are somewhat alike and that they were made with so much love. Gram and Auntie Angie worked very hard on this beautiful quilt and I couldn't love it more. The other top reason I love the quilt is because Angie was on a hunt for the perfect blue and coral floral pattern that would bring the other colors together. After a million trips to fabric stores and tons of searching online she found the fabric in....Manchester, England!!! Not even kidding. The floral pattern we found was no longer available (it was a few years old) and Angie found 1 yard for sale from someone in England. It's the fabric third from the bottom. I adore it and it really does make the quilt come together perfectly!!!!

The lamp was another Home Goods find. So were the bird cage and ornate frame that hold Lexie's bows. I found the shelf at a thrift store and stained it to match the distressed changing table. I love displaying not only the bows but all her little shoes.

Gram totally surprised me with this darling mini quilt!!! Little did she know before she made it that I was hoping to find or make a little mat for the table. I adore the pinwheel pattern and think it looks perfect on the side table. I love it and I love her.

A sweet friend made this tutu for the diaper genie and I just think it's the perfect touch. I love that it makes something as plain as a diaper holder look girly and pretty. LOVE.

Here is the wall opposite the crib with the changing table Daddy made. I seriously love it. I found the plans here and he was willing to make it! He built it and I painted it, sanded it, and distressed it. He did a great job and I love that he made it. When she is older we will take the top frame off (that the changing pad fits in) and she can still use it.

I found the baskets for the changing table at world market
Found the two shabby off white rugs at Home Goods. Yup. Still love that store.

Another sweet friend knew I was looking for an ornate mirror and saw this one at a thrift store for $16 that was gold. She snatched it for me, bought it, and texted me. I was so glad she bought it. It was a steal. I spray painted it white and love the way it turned out.

I knew when I was planning the nursery that I wanted a chandelier. The problem is they can get REALLY expensive. I found one at home depot for $100 bucks and was hesitant. I texted a picture to my sisters and Stephanie replied to the text with the same exact chandelier but with 4 lights instead of 6 for almost half the price at Joss & Main. I was all over it and order it right away. Score.

I love all the books that Alexis got at the shower (people brought books instead of cards which was so fun) and I really wanted to display them. I had seen these bookshelves that were made out of vinyl rain gutters on pinterest and asked Dad if he'd give it a shot. Of course Dad did a fabulous job installing them and I love how the books look in the shelves. I found the hamper at Home Goods that Lexie's blankets and stuffed animals are in.

Another sweet friend made the name for Alexis to use at the shower and did each letter to match the nursery decor. I knew the name HAD to go on top of the bookshelves when she told me I could keep it!! I seriously LOVE the nursery. I love that I had lots of friends and family members in on the decorating and giving advice. I had so much fun I would love to do interior decorating for a living. :)

So there you have it, buddy. Your little sisters nursery. Make sure to keep checking in on us. Maybe a little more than normal since my hormones are crazy. I sure miss you, son. More than you could possibly know. But my love for you is what is really immeasurable.

Alexis' Due Date

Today was your sisters due date and boy am I glad she is here safe and sound. We went to a post op appointment to make sure I'm healing okay and as gram and I went to leave Audrey says, "Are you leaving Lexie with us?" Ummm no, not quite.
Lexis was all snuggle and cozy in her car seat. When we got to the dr office I lifted up the car seat cover and peeked in at her and saw this...

I laughed pretty hard because I was not expecting to see that! The second picture is blurry because I was laughing. She is cute even with a floral pirate patch.

The appointment went well. I love my doctor. She is pretty much the best OB, not to mention person, I could ever hope for as a Dr.

I can't believe a week has already gone by since Alexis was born. She is such a precious baby. Here are a few pictures from the week.

She loves to be snuggled and cozy and hates to be uncovered. She loves to eat and suck on her binkie.

Sure do love you, buddy.
Wish you were here with us.
